The Best Rope to Tie a Christmas Tree To Your Car

First things first, if you’re going to properly secure your tree to your car, you’re going to need a strong rope equipped for the job. That’s why our number one rope recommendation for tying a Christmas tree to your car is polypropylene twine.

Not only is polypropylene twine like the Tie-Rite Twine and Tuff-Tying Twine made from 100% industrial-grade polypropylene for incredible abrasion and weather resistance, but it is also low-stretch, holds knots well, and will not become brittle or break after being exposed to cold or hot temperatures.

Now, onto the fun stuff!

Tying A Christmas Tree To Your Car (Without a Roof Rack)

Don’t have a roof rack on your car? Not to fret! Here’s how to tie up Christmas trees to your car roof:

  1. Secure a blanket or covering to the roof of your car. This will prevent sticky sap or scratches from being left on the top of your car.
  2. Hoist and roll the tree up onto the car with the trunk facing the front windshield.
  3. Wrap twine around the trunk so that it is secured by branches and cannot slip off the bottom. Make sure there is a secure loop around the trunk, and then proceed to toss the rest of the twine down and through the driver’s or passenger side door over to the other side. DO NOT run the twine through the windows.
  4. On the other side of the car, take the rope back up to the other side of the trunk and pass it through the loop first formed around the trunk. Pull tight and tie a secure knot.
  5. Once the trunk is securely in place, move to the top of the tree facing back towards the trunk and hoist a new piece of twine up and over the tree.
  6. Pass the twine through the back doors, pull tight, and tie a secure knot.

  4. Once the trunk is securely in place, move to the top of the tree facing back toward the trunk.
  5. Secure the twine to one side of the roof rack and toss the remaining twine over to the other side.
  6. Tightly cinch down on the twine and secure it to the other side of the roof rack.
