Coiling Unattached Rope

An unattached rope is best stored in a neat coil so that it can be used quickly and easily without tangles or twists. This technique of coiling a rope is known as both a Buntline Coil and a Gasket Coil.

After unwrapping the loop that holds the coil together, place the coil on the ground with the end that was used to start the coil on the bottom; This way it will remain undisturbed, even if the rope unravels rapidly, because the starting end was “left outside the coil” at the beginning. The end used to wrap the coil should release  without twists or tangles.

The rope we used in the video is ¼" Utility Rope (Royal Blue): a basic, affordable, all-purpose and all-weather rope.
