What is Bungee Shock Cord?

A shock cord (commonly referred to as bungee cord) is an elastic cord composed of one or more elastic strands forming a core, usually covered in a woven cotton or polypropylene sheath.  The rope’s sheath is braided with strands spiraling around the core where a longitudinal pull causes a tightened core to transmit its elastic compression to the longitudinal extension of the sheath and cord.

Where Can A Bungee Shock Cord Be Used?

Bungee Shock cord is used for just about everything and especially comes in handy in situations requiring the ultimate shock absorption (hence the name shock cord!).  For this reason, elastic bungee cords are often used in transportation to hold down cargo, but its application does not stop there.  Bungee cord also makes a great chair strap, dog leash for running, boating, tent pole repair, or a ball rack.
