SGT KNOTS ROPE MATERIAL GUIDE
Promanila is made from Polypropylene yarn, it is stronger yet lighter than a true manila rope. The polypropylene yarns used to make this "unmanila" rope are high-strength, high-quality, and highly flexible, allowing the finished rope to take and hold knots well, and release them just as easily.
Our tan-colored polypro rope looks just like the real thing but holds up even better to wear and tear, moisture, oils and chemicals, and everyday use in almost any situation. You don't have to break the bank to get the look or the quality of a natural manila rope.
Uses: Suitable for any application you might select a manila rope, including nautical and marine use, around the ranch or farm, as decorative rope, or building a rope swing.
Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer (aka Plastic).
Our Twisted Polypropylene Rope is a flexible, low-stretch rope that is also resistant to abrasion, damage and "drying out"/brittleness from the sun's UV rays, wear caused by road salts... outdoors, underwater, or anywhere else. It is highly resistant to moisture and floats in water. It is also highly resistant to chemicals. Somewhat difficult to tie. Ages well.
Uses: Ideal for marine applications, fishing and other water-related tasks like swimming lane barriers.
*PRO TIP: Melt ends when cutting polypropylene ropes to prevent unraveling*
Polyester is a synthetic fiber that provides less elasticity than nylon but is otherwise similar.
Polyester Ropes are resistant to moisture and unaffected by oil, grease, and most other chemicals. Polyester is virtually immune to rot, decay, and chemical-based weakening so it doesn’t shrink after getting wet, and temperature has little impact on the rope's flexibility.
Twisted Polyester Ropes also have non-elastic properties superior to most other ropes, resistant to stretching and distortion, your rope stays taut and can be tied, re-tied, and tied yet again.
Uses: This rope type is a good choice when stretching is not desired. Lifting slings work great with polyester rope because it is highly resistant to abrasion, harmful UV lights, as well as heat.
Dacron Polyester properties include high tensile strength, high resistance to stretching, both wet and dry, and good resistance to degradation by chemical bleaches and to abrasion.
Dacron is a registered trade name for a polyester fiber made by DuPont. Dacron Polyester Ropes are especially known for their durability, consistency, and quality. Dacron, unlike natural fibers, is hypoallergenic, non-absorbent, and mildew-resistant.
Nylon is a thermoplastic silky material that can be melt-processed into fibers, films, or shapes.
Our Twisted Nylon Rope has elastic properties which allow it to absorb energy. When wet, nylon fibers can lose approximately 15% of their strength. They also shrink after being wet. Nylon fiber handles a variety of weather conditions very well and it is abrasion resistant. Nylon is fairly UV resistant. This means that leaving it out in the sunlight won’t degrade the line as quickly as polypropylene lines degrade.
Uses: Commonly found in mooring lines, nylon is useful in all types of Sailing and Marine Applications! Due to its strength, durability and shock absorbing abilities, Nylon Ropes work great for everything from household chores to industrial applications.

Cotton fiber is a soft fluffy staple fiber that grows around the seed of a cotton plant.
Cotton Ropes are fast-drying, and naturally high-strength with low stretch. Soft in the hand yet tough enough to withstand practically anything you throw at it.
Our Twisted 100% Cotton Rope is TRULY made from cotton, and nothing but cotton. Pure, USA-grown natural cotton fibers make for a strong, sturdy rope that's perfectly safe for pet toys and around other ranch animals, all sorts of crafts, and much much more!
Sisal Fiber has been used for centuries and is still one of the most used natural materials. SGT KNOTS Sisal Ropes are woven and twisted from the fibers of the Agave sisalana in a manufacturing process that involves no chemicals, oils, or other treatments. An excellent low cost fiber that has 80% of the tensile strength of abacá fiber (manila ropes).
Built by nature to withstand practically any weather, you can count on your sisal rope. It is stiff, strong, durable and it has the capacity to resist deterioration in salted water. However, chemicals and moisture shorten its lifespan. It's the chemical-free, all-natural rope you can trust in even the harshest conditions.
Uses: Perfect for replacing or building a scratching post for your feline friend(s). From hay baling to decorating around your ranch-themed home, this tough and attractive Twisted Sisal Rope is suited to a variety of tasks outdoors and in. It's used as an accommodating tie-down, a marine-bound binding, and plenty of other applications.
Jute is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fiber that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. Jute is one of the most affordable natural fibers.
Built the way nature intended: no oils, odors, chemicals, bleaches, or dyes were used in our manufacturing. 100% all natural and completely safe for use with pets and food. This specific style of rope is not readily available in the U.S. and is an excellent eco-friendly rope option. You can even compost it once it's spent.
Uses: Most commonly used for crafts, twisted jute is also a great multi-purpose rope for home improvement, gardening, camping and more.
Paracord, or parachute cord, is provided with all the features of a simple nylon rope, plus a strong inner core and a tear resistant sheath. Paracord comes in a wide range of thicknesses and strengths. Shop our large selection of Paracord Supplies today!
The military has been using this type of rope since World War II, so you can rely on its versatility.
Uses: The paracord’s most obvious uses are for crafting, paracord/survival bracelets, lanyards, belts, rifle slings, handle wraps, securing your gear, setting traps, tie-downs, and camping.
